Sedona

October 12, 2021
I had been wanting to go to Sedona after seeing photos of its stunning curvy, space-like, red rocks and layered, sand castle looking mountain ranges. SO my husband and I planned to come to Sedona and check it out for ourselves. As we knew well that AZ gets HOT in the summer, October seemed like the right time of year to enjoy the desert without melting in the heat. The Fall weather is so much nicer be outside in AZ. The low to mid-80’s, sunny, clear skies and a light breeze is perfect for exploring and being outside. Near sunset though, it does cool down quite a bit so we brought jackets knowing we would get cold which came in handy!
As soon as we were a within 20 miles of Sedona, we started to see the majestic, red mountain range spanning across the desert landscape. The closer and closer we got, the bigger and taller the mountains became and soon we were surrounded by incredibly unusual and powerful looking cliffs.
What surprised me, other than the gorgeous Sedona landscape, was that in the center of it all there is a pretty sizable downtown area full of shops, restaurants, and art! The town center was packed with people walking up and down the Main Street exploring the restaurants, wine tasting rooms, and resorts and spas. The best part is that among all this excitement going on downtown, the backdrop is the Sedona mountains surrounding and framing the little town.
When Chris and I were last in Arizona, one of our friends told us about the Pink Jeep Tours in Sedona and how we absolutely HAD to book one of their tours. I did a quick google search and found the perfect option out of their menu of tours – the Broken Arrow Tour. On their site, its described as their “most extreme” tour so naturally I knew Chris would love it and believe it or not, I like the thrill of bumpy rides and rollercoaster type stuff too!
The jeeps are all Barbie pink, so of course that made it even better for a girl like me! But don’t be fooled by the girly color, these things seriously go off road! There were times our tour guide took us over rocks and up mountainside angles that I thought for sure was going to buck us off or flip the truck!
All the bumps and the turns and getting almost stuck with the 4 wheel drive whipping to grab a hold of the ground under us was exhilarating! I had my core strength locked in and my seatbelt on tight while I laughed watching Chris hang on for dear life. I don’t know if he was being extra goofy just for my entertainment or if he seriously could barely hang on, but I was dying! I couldn’t help but also imagine how fun this tour would be with a big group of people, like my girlfriends who would love something like this.
We opted for the sunset tour which was definitely the best choice as watching the sun set across the desert was breathtaking. It brought new meaning to the phrase “golden hour.” I couldn’t take enough photos, it was just overwhelmingly picturesque. Quick tip: bring a water bottle and a sweater if you’re doing a jeep tour later in the day, it does get cold!
I hear there is a haunted town called Jerome on the way to Sedona…so maybe next time we will have to make a pit stop for a haunted tour on our way back!
Best,
Ashley Jo
